Question

We are interested to know whether the same/similar rules for reporting DRGs as for inpatient care will apply to acute care. Will we be able to report? combination therapist. surgical procedure (5c...) together with diagnostic SI (ultrasound ...), therapeutic non-operative procedure (drug administration). E.g. for the 5c... one of the ultrasound procedures from the category Comprehensive ultrasound diagnosis of the globe and orbit (A, B scan, Doppler)?

We propose that when reporting a procedure in the ICU, it should also be possible to report both diagnostic and therapeutic procedures together with ICU surgical procedures

Currently, it is not possible to perform a surgical procedure in the ICU if an examination (therapeutic or diagnostic procedures) is performed on the same day. Thus, in acute cases, the patient has to wait unnecessarily for surgery, even if the PHC could perform the acute surgery on the basis of the examination on the same day.

Answer

ICU cases are classification cases and are covered by the full Coding Rules, i.e. ICU cases are also coded in the usual way as inpatient cases and therefore multiple procedures can be coded within a single classification case. All healthcare provided is coded. The above is also possible for same-day care providers only under the technical assumption of reporting via batch 274.
