Consideration of ongoing rehabilitation care after orthopaedic, trauma and stroke surgery

The relative weight of a patient's inpatient case with a surgical procedure (neurosurgery, orthopaedics, trauma) is the same regardless of whether he or she receives continuing rehabilitation care (transfer from the operating theatre to the rehabilitation ward) at the same time in the same facility. If the patient is transferred to another healthcare facility for the same rehabilitation, there are two hospitalisation cases and therefore two reimbursements. If it is one hospital case with continuous care, the relative weighting does not take into account the complexity of the rehabilitation procedures.

Answer

Rehabilitation care is subject to a comprehensive review in 2025, 2026 onwards with a focus on follow-up - post-acute care.
